Kirkintilloch Town Hall

This Project involved the comprehensive refurbishment of the Grade “B” Listed Kirkintilloch Town Hall and the construction of a sizable new build extension, of contemporary design, to form an integrated heritage, arts, culture and community hub which blends past, present and future.

The new facility offers a main 300-capacity auditorium which provides flexible performance and events spaces and can accommodate full-scale productions, concerts, lectures and talks as well as weddings and large scale events. The new extension contains a smaller space for more intimate performances and events, an open plan reception and foyer and private offices for staff.

A new heritage centre has been created on the first floor which is run in association with East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust. The centre  includes interactive exhibits providing information on the area’s industrial heritage as well as community workshop space for activities and events which will widen the local people’s knowledge, and appreciation of the town.

It was integral to the Client that as many feature characteristics of the building be preserved, and therefore details such cornicing and decorative plasterwork was painstakingly restored throughout.

The internal restoration works included:

  • New reproduction ceiling - moulded from original designs - and proscenium arch
  • New flooring throughout
  • Refurbishment and Upgrade of kitchen, store room, toilets and locker room
  • Stained glass feature - preserved from the original town hall
  • Removal of first floor balconies and creation of new mezzanine level.
  • Upgrade of all M&E Services

Externally, the original stonework was repaired by our in-house specialist Stonework Division CBC Stone.
