Isobel Mair ASN School

This Project comprised the construction of a high specification combined Primary and Secondary School, to cater for children aged between 5 and 18 with varying degrees of educational support needs, and an adjoining Family Centre which provides nursery care for pre-school age children in the local community as well as offering additional family support services.

The timber framed structure, of contemporary design provides a gross floor area of approximately 4,580m2 and is constructed on piled and raft foundations.

The school provides three teaching areas that provide traditional style classrooms, which are specifically adapted for children with physical and mental disabilities, and social/play areas. In addition the facility, which accommodates 132 pupils, offers a small hydrotherapy pool and a separate “life skills unit”  which takes the form of a fully fitted traditional house in which pupils can learn day-to-day skills, and a cafe that will open to the public once a week.

The external elevations are a combination of brickwork, render and timber panelling. The building has a zinc roof covering.
