Ardgowan Primary School

Ardgowan Primary School is a traditionally built red sandstone building situated in a densely populated residential area.

The Project involved  the construction of a new build extension to form a new flexible gymnasium and assembly hall.

Given that the area is classed as a designated Conservation Area, the new extension was sympathetically designed to compliment the original building and its traditional surroundings while still offering a contemporary edge.

In addition to the construction of new space, the Project also involved the comprehensive refurbishment of the existing building to bring the school in line with, and suitable for, Modern Methods of Teaching.

The original floor levels in the building did not allow sufficient light and was inflexible in terms of services. Therefore, sections of the existing floors were demolished and replaced along with the reconfiguration of classrooms. External windows were completely replaced to maintain the aesthetic of the building but minimise air leakage. Stone repairs and replacement were also carried out by our CBC Stone Division.

Extensive landscaping and external works were also completed under the Contract, including the formation of a new Multi Use Games Area.
