Goosander Place, Western Harbour, Edinburgh
Client: Port of Leith Housing Association
Value: £11.68 Million
This Design & Build Project to deliver 102 flatted units, constructed around an inner court yard, formed part of the overall regeneration of the Leith Docks Area in Edinburgh. The six storey development, which offers a range of one, two and three bedroom accommodation, provides high quality, affordable housing in the area.
The Development has been designed as sustainable and energy efficiency with Ground Source Heat Pumps servicing the flats at ground level and a Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) being incorporated. The levels of insulation and airtightness of the building are higher than the statutory minimum and all timber used in construction is FCS Certified. Eight of the units have also been specially adapted to accommodate disabled residents and several three and four bedroom properties have been designed for use by families.
Construction comprises ground floor steel structure and steel piling, with transfer deck at first floor level. The upper floor structure is timber kit with infill panels, and the finish is render and natural stone.
This development was awarded a Scottish Home Award for Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year
