This New Build Primary and Pre-school Campus in the Southside of Glasgow provides accommodation for 550 Children from three local amalgamating schools. The new facility also provides a Pre-Five Centre with two nursery classes, and offers IT and sports amenities for the wider community.
A key concept of the design was that the school integrated with the local community and did not take the form of a "traditional" school. The distinctive, curved structure creates a contemporary frontage, as well as offering unique learning spaces for pupils.
Inside, the building provides 3,443m2 (37,060ft2) of inner floor space with 12 large class rooms positioned off a central wide, light and spacious "street" that stretches the full two storey height of the building. At one end there of this corridor is a large sports hall and adjoining dinner hall. The School also incorporates an open plan library and IT facility with flexible working space. The internal street was designed to emulate the traditional Victorian Villas of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Construction comprised driven concrete piles, structural steel and timber frame, insitu concrete floors, curtain walling, rainscreen and "Kalzip" style roof.
The Campus was designed as highly sustainable and achieved a "Very Good" BREEAM Rating.
