Buchanan Lodge, Glasgow
Client: Cassiltoun Housing Association
Value: £3.8 Million
This Project involved the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of a fire damaged, former Care Home, to form a 40 Bed Residential Care Facility which offers accommodation for vulnerable, elderly males who have experienced long term homelessness.
Our Project Delivery Teams worked to restore what remained of the existing 1970s building, and constructed a new two-storey extension, of contemporary design, to replace the two single storey wings that had been damaged in the fire.
Buchanan Lodge, which is operated by the Talbot Association, provides en-suite facilities, complete with wet floor showers, for all residents. A large "Hub" area was incorporated into the design to facilitate social interaction, activities and events. A TV lounge, quiet areas and a games room is also provided to allow residents a choice of environments in which to relax.
The construction of the new extension comprised steel frame structure with natural stone and zinc cladding. The layout of the existing building was re-configured and the structure was overclad with an insulated render system to increase the sustainability of the building. Additional energy efficient technologies include energy efficient bay windows, sun pipes and efficient boiler plant.
