Pupils really dig new school

School may be out for the summer, but for pupils in Glasgow the work is only just beginning as construction gets underway on the brand new Merrylee Primary School campus in the Southside of the city.  Primary seven pupils from the existing Merrylee Primary School and Simshill Primary School were on hand to help as main contractors CBC Ltd moved in to begin work on the site in the last week of term.  The students, who were joined by Bailie Gordon Matheson, Executive Member for Education and Social Renewal at Glasgow City Council, cut the first sod to officially start work on the new, highly sustainable school.
The new campus comprises 3,443sqm (37,060sqft) inner floor space designed around an open, double height “street”. The school street is lined to the West by 2-storey classrooms which are themed around the traditional Victorian villas of the neighbouring community.
In addition to providing traditional educational services, the school building will also act as a community “hub” by offering extensive out-of-hours IT, library and sports facilities to residents in the area. NEXT>>
